I want to understand a product
There are thousands of PPEs on the market. The difficulty in going into detail is that each manufacturer organises their data differently, using their own lexicon, their own pictograms, and their own logic. This lack of homogeneity makes it impossible to understand and compare PPEs at a glance.
By compiling and organising data from manufacturers in a homogeneous way, Deck gives you a quick overview of every PPE on the market.
Data concerning a product is collected at regular intervals on a manufacturer’s website. Thus any modification, addition or deletion is detected and updated in our database. Once the data is mined and verified, it is processed to be presented in a homogeneous way on a product page.
The product page
The product page features all the information related to a product in the Deck database. It is split into three columns: the product card on the left, textual information in the middle, and the information related to your company on the right (this part is the subject its own tutorial: link later).
To go into more detail on the various concepts of the product page, let’s take the example of the Hyflex 11-541 glove.
The product card
The product card allows you to find all the information necessary to understand the product in a format adapted to each screen size. Ideally suited for mobile devices, it gives you access to the database directly from your pocket!
When encountering a product for the first time, you are able to identify its name and brand at a glance, understand that it is cut-resistant, totally breathable, and that it is compliant with EN388 and EN407 standards. Experts will also gather that it is a knitted glove, coated with nitrile foam on the palm.
Icons help describe product characteristics at a glance. They are generic and do not vary from one manufacturer to the next. Furthermore, a caption appears on mouse over. Once the meaning has been assimilated, you will be able to outline all PPEs on the market in an instant.
The product card “synthesises” a product. But there is a lot more data available in the page’s middle column.
Layout of product page data
Data is sorted by themes, which we will explore here.
1. Identification
|
|
The identification part gathers all the information that allows you to recognise the product: its name, reference and manufacturer.
2. Assets
|
|
The “Assets” section includes all the external resources available on the manufacturer’s site. The data sheet can be downloaded directly from Deck in every language.
3. Risk
|
|
The “Risk” section describes the standards or product design features to make them understandable to everyone. In this example, the risks of “cuts” and “contact heat” are a translation of EN388 and EN407 standards. The level of grip and waterproofness are extrapolated from the product’s materials. This means you can gain an understanding of a product without knowing its standards or materials.
4. Standards
|
|
Here you will find more details on the standards for this product. Click on the “Learn more” buttons to access blog articles about the standards mentioned.
5. Description & Design
|
|
These sections feature the product’s technical information. The Design section provides information on how the glove is constructed, and the Description section summarises practical information such as measurements or colour.
6. Product benefits
The “Product benefits” section highlights all additional benefits. You will find criteria such as manufacturing specificities, quality certifications and benefits (e.g.: touch-sensitive, washable, etc.)
There you go! You now know everything about the product page. If any product information seems wrong, do not hesitate to report it by clicking on “Report a mistake” directly from the product page in question.
